Description:
This is a highly professional position in the Quality Improvement Department at Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH), primarily responsible for auditing the delivery of medical and/or nursing services in the hospital. The incumbent will provide instruction and education to nursing staff as needed, and will monitor and advise on corrective action plans. This position will assist with utilization review activities in the distinct part unit of the hospital. This position will work closely with the Registered Nursing Consultant of the QI Department. This position is supervised by the Director of the Quality Improvement Department.

Duties and Responsibilities/Examples of Work:
:Participates in unit surveys to assess nursing compliance with survey standards; reviews recovery plans and medical records in hospital units to ensure compliance with federal and state standards, as well as Departmental and NEFSH Operating Procedures; assesses the environment and delivery of services; implementation and monitoring of action plans. Summarizes data and prepares feedback reports on results.
:Provides technical assistance, data collection and analysis associated with special clinical projects as requested with guidance from the Medical Executive Director, Director of Nursing, and/or Quality Improvement Director; conducts independent audits to ensure regulatory clinical procedures are followed.
:Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars to discuss problem areas, suggest corrective actions, and provide instruction in quality improvement processes and to improve own knowledge. Develops and conducts quality training for nursing personnel as needed. Actively participates in the Continuous Quality Improvement process as required.
:Upon Leadership requests, participates in critical event and/or high risk reviews.
:Provides hospital wide assistance and guidance with obtaining and maintaining accreditation (CARF and/or JC).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
:Knowledge of the nursing principles, practices, and techniques in specialized areas.
:Knowledge of the theories and concepts of preventive health care.
:Knowledge of statistics and measurement of data.
:Ability to analyze data, research and implement changes based on findings.
:Knowledge and ability in computer utilization, writing reports, using graphs, and presentation of findings to individuals and/or groups.
:Ability to teach professional skills to others.
:Ability and skill in communication with all levels of staff and residents, including problem solving and conflict resolution.

Minimum Qualifications:
:Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210:8.27.
:Two (2) years of professional nursing, psychiatric nursing, or nursing instruction experience.
:A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in nursing or nursing education.
:A Masters degree from an accredited college or university in nursing or nursing education may substitute for one year of nursing experience.
